The 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League’s Week 13 saw exciting battles and upset results, and as many as 21 goals were scored across the six matches, played on February 4 and 5, 2023.

THE RESULTS

Al Sadd bt Umm Salal  2-0

Al Rayyan lost to Al Arabi     0-3

Al Wakrah lost to Al Gharafa 0-4

Al Duhail bt Al Ahli      2-1

Al Markhiya bt Qatar SC       4-0

Al Shamal lost to Al Sailiya    0-5

No match ended in a draw for the second week in a row and five teams kept a clean sheet (Al Sadd, Al Arabi, Al Gharafa, Al Markhiya and Al Sailiya).

Two red cards were issued, to Umm Salal’s Atef Mohammed and Qatar SC’s Javier Pastore.

A number of players, most notably the Al Rayyan duo of Sofiane Boufal and Jason Vargas, and Al Sailiya’s Mohammed Diame made their first appearance in their new contracts with the clubs.

Al Duhail continued their winning run and maintained the four-point difference on top with closest challengers Al Arabi, who stood in second place and got back to winning ways after two consecutive losses.

Al Sadd advanced from sixth to third place with 19 points, on goal difference ahead of Qatar SC and Al Gharafa who both have the same number of points.

Al Markhiya were back winning and Al Sailiya scored their second victory this season and moved one place from last to 11th with seven points, ahead of Umm Salal on goal difference.

Al Duhail recorded another victory, their fifth in a row and ninth overall, and this came at the expense of Al Ahli (2-1). Khaled Mohammed and Sultan Al Breik scored for Al Duhail who took their tally to 29 points. For Al Ahli, who fell to seventh place with 17 points, Abubakar Mohammed scored.

Al Arabi returned to the path of victory after two consecutive losses as they beat Al Rayyan 3-0, with Syrian striker Omar Al Somah scoring a hat-trick. Al Arabi thus consolidated their position in second place with 25 points, while Al Rayyan suffered an eighth defeat and they stood in 10th position with eight points.

Holders Al Sadd continued their winning march and registered their fourth victory in a row after the long break by defeating Umm Salal 2-0, with goals coming from Baghdad Bounedjah and Akram Afif.

Al Sadd dominated the match with much more possession than Umm Salal, who slipped from 11th to last in the standings with seven points.

.Al Gharafa were one of the beneficiaries of the round as they scored their second successive victory by beating Al Wakrah 4-0. Homam Al Ameen (double), Yacine Brahimi and Muayad Hassan scored the goals as The Cheetahs moved from seventh to fifth place with 19 points. And Al Wakrah fell from fourth to sixth place with 18 points..

Al Markhiya achieved an exciting and deserved victory over Qatar SC (4-0) and progressed from ninth to eighth position with 12 points. And Qatar SC slipped from third to fourth place, after four consecutive victories, with 19 points.

In the last match, Al Sailiya rose to the occasion and scored their second victory in the league. They beat Al Shamal 5-0, which was the biggest victory margin in the round.

Iranian Mehrdad Mohammadi scored a hat-trick for Al Sailiya, who climbed from last to 11th with seven points, ahead of Umm Salal on goal difference, after both were tied on the same number of points.

Omar Al Somah strongly enters top scorers’ race

Al Arabi striker Omar Al Somah strongly entered the race of top scorers after scoring a hat-trick against Al Rayyan. He is now on eight goals, behind Al Wakrah’s Jacinto Dala and Al Duhail’s Michael Olunga (both nine goals).
