The club was founded in 1951 under the name Al Nasr and the first internal regulations were put in place in 1958. Al Nasr was one of the strongest Qatari clubs in the 1950s and early 1960s. The club attracted many foreign players who entertained Qatari fans those days with their skills. It was the first club to recruit foreign footballers.
Qatar’s football ambassador: Al Nasr club is considered as the first ambassador of Qatar football outside the Gulf region. It travelled to Lebanon and Syria in 1958, and played some friendly matches in Beirut, Tripoli and Damascus.
Al Shahania Club: The club was founded in 1998. Its headquarters was located in Al Rayyan area of Doha. It was a villa consisting of six rooms. In 2001, the club’s headquarters was relocated by the Qatar Olympic Committee to Al Shahania area with an administrative headquarters, a main stadium and changing rooms for players.
The club management has been keen to meet all necessary requirements of players, be they sportswear, transportation or entertainment. It has players (1989/1990/1991) in the Qatar Football Association’s age-group leagues. There are also junior and youth teams in addition to the first team.

Al Shahania are coached by Spaniard Jose Pepe Murcia, who guided them to Second Division triumph in the 2022-2023 season and coached them in First Division the following season. He had steered them to Second Division triumph in 2017-2018 season as well.
He assumed the charge replacing fellow Spaniard Alvaro Mejia in the 2024-2025 season after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.
Murcia has coached a number of clubs, most notably Romania’s Brasov in 2011 and, three years later, Bulgarian team Levski Sofia.
In Spain, he was in charge of teams, such as Cordoba, Atletico Madrid and Celta Vigo.
