Al Shamal defeated Al Gharafa 1-0 in Week 16 of 2025-2026 season Doha Bank Stars League at the Thani Bin Jassim Stadium of Al Gharafa club on Sunday.

Mohammed Omar scored the decisive goal in the 68th minute with a superb back-heel flip that went right over the head of the onrushing goalkeeper Khalifa Ababacar as the visitors advanced to 31 points to displace Al Gharafa, who share the same points tally but with a lesser goal difference, from the second position in the league.

The two sides went toe-to-toe from the blast of the opening whistle but all to no avail until Mohammed Omar scored what is arguably one of the goal-of-the-season contenders.

Al Shamal were reduced to 10 men five minutes after the goal, with Baghdad Bounedjah sent off for a second yellow card after a foul on Seydou Sano. The numerical disadvantage, however, did little to affect the result as Al Shamal held on to their important win.
