Al Shamal and Al Ahli will lock horns in Week 1 of 2025-2026 Doha Bank Stars League at the Khalifa International Stadium on Thursday, August 14, 2025. The kick-off is at 8.30pm.
Both teams are motivated to win, having finished their last season in a strong position. Therefore, the match is expected to be exciting, competitive and filled with fierce desire to win as each team looks to perform to their best from the very start to strengthen their position in the league table.
Both sides have prepared well by training in Europe and playing friendly matches. Each of the teams has also strengthened its ranks with new players, both foreign and local professionals.
Al Shamal coach David Prats is relying on his stars from last season in addition to the new signings, most notably Akram Tawfiq, Alex Collado and Algerian Abdessamad Bounacer. The following players have remained with the team: Baghdad Bounedjah, Jeison Murillo, Mohammed Omar, Younes El Hannach, Younes Belhanda and Naim Sliti.
Al Ahli, under Igor Biscan, aspire to continue their impressive form and achieve a high position, as they did last season (finishing in fourth place). Al Ahli will be relying on new stars like Frenchman Ibrahima Diallo, Dutchman Michel Vlap, Tunisian Zinedine Sassi and Moroccan Ayoub Amraoui. They also have foreign stars from last season such as Julian Draxler, Driss Fettouhi, Matej Mitrovic and Erik Exposito.
