Al Wakrah and Qatar SC played out a 2-2 draw in the opening match of 2026-2027 season Doha Bank Stars League at Lusail Stadium on Thursday.

Aron Gunnarsson scored the first goal of new season, rifling home a rebound from Niall Mason’s shot inside the final third to give Qatar SC the lead in the 18th minute.

Al Wakrah created several opportunities to equalise during a lengthy spell but failed to convert, with Almahdi Ali heading wide from the right side of the box in the 37th minute after a set-piece delivery by Luis Alberto.

The Blue Wave finally levelled in first-half stoppage time through Redouane Berkane to ensure the sides went into the break on equal terms.

Al Wakrah took the lead in the 67th minute when Amine Zouhzouh converted from the penalty spot after Fallou Diouf’s challenge on Berkane. 

Bruno Tabata restored parity for Qatar SC 12 minutes later, capitalising on a goalkeeping error by Mohammed Al Bakri to slot home from close range, ensuring the match closed out with the spoils evenly shared.
