Current joint league leaders Lekhwiya welcomed Al Khor to the Abdulla bin Khalifa stadium for what turned out to be a game with plenty of goals at both ends.

Lekhwiya produced a dominating second-half performance to beat Al Khor 4-2 in their Qatar Stars League encounter.

Michael Laudrup’s boys were given a breather in the title showdown when Al Sadd lost against Shahania and today they ensured that there was no further slip despite having to come from behind twice in the match.

Khor was coming off a morale boosting 1-0 win over Al Arabi and they were the first to open the scoring through William Junior Souza as early as in the 17th minute.

This put the brakes on Lekhwiya’s tempo since they were dominating the match till then and the goal had caught them unawares. But they were able to regroup and score the equaliser in the 36th minute through winger Ismail Mohamad .

Lekhiwya were on the attack after this goal but couldn’t find the back of the net and went into the break with the scores tied at 1-1.

The second half saw stalemate till the 66th minute when surprisingly, against the run of play, it was Khor who took the lead through Helal Mohamed Ibrahim.

This produced quite a few nervous moments on Lekhwiya’s bench but then just nine minutes later it was Ibrahim who turned from hero to villain for Khor as he scored an own goal.

This goal put the wind back into the sails of Lekhwiya and they started dominated proceedings and were rewarded just five minutes later as they took the lead through their winger Vladimir Weiss.

Khor couldn’t respond and Lekhwiya wrapped it up with a goal in injury time through Khalid Muftah (93rd minute).

It was a deserving victory for Lekhwiya since they controlled the play and enjoyed a comfortable 58 per cent of the possession. Lekhwiya had as many as 14 shots on goal with four on target while Khor managed just three shots with two on target.

Though Khor briefly threatened to pull off an upset, it was Lekhwiya who dug deep in the second half to get the three points and maintain their place at the top of the QSL table.
