The QSL’s Executive Director of Competition & Football Development, Mr. Ahmed Al Harmi said that the league needs the contribution and inputs of all stakeholders in order develop the beautiful game in Qatar.

In a statement to the QSL’s official website he said, “All relevant parties are required to contribute to the QSL’s overall development, starting from supporting our management as well as the clubs. Also by providing systems and methods, technology, scientific studies and creating new commercial sponsorship opportunities. The clubs are the engine on which everything works off, and we must ensure the right environment is created for them so that they can operate and flourish. This will improve the experience at the stadiums both inside and out.”

He added, “The QFA has a role and commitment to enact legislation, which includes the production of strong national teams which is done by having a competitive in environment in which to develop. The QSL is a fertile and consistent league in which this can be achieved. The media too is an important element because they evaluate the work of each organisation, lastly but most importantly the public who supports specific QSL teams is key, they create a fun and intense atmosphere. There are many factors that create a good league.”

Al Harmi added, “Before the commencement of the league season, there are always big hopes and wishes, and in my capacity as the Executive Director of Competition & Football Development we hope to enhance and achieve these hopes.  We also aim to avoid the negative issues which occur throughout a season, such as time wasting, or the large number of players asking for medical assistance during games to deliberately stop the rhythm of the match or allay the pressure of the opposing team.”

Al Harmi continued, “Last season’s statistics revealed that medical staff entered the pitch an average of 6 times per game, which is a bad rate in the world of football. This kills the excitement of the match as a spectacle and wastes everyone's time. The European model means that every time medical staff enter the pitch to take care of a potentially injured player, the player is then changed 75% of the costs, which cannot happen here, but we will work to find solutions in cooperation with the clubs and the players during this season.”

Al Harmi also pointed out that he is involved in spectator’s attractions alongside his main role, he said, “The desired product we aim for is a strong competition and fast paced game which obviously is attractive to the fans and motivates them to attend our stadiums.”

Commenting on his expectations for the new season and the potential QSL champions for this season, he said, “My personal expectations are based upon the clubs preparations and signings. Two top teams statistically will remain at the top whilst the other two spots are less easy to guess. During the season we will witness lots of changes and surprises, I wish the best to all the teams.”
