The Week 13 action in the QNB Stars League saw many exciting battles and interesting results, with Al Sadd beating Al Arabi 3-0 in the Qatar Derby and Al Sailiya pulling off a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Al Gharafa being the highlights.

A total of 11 goals were scored compared to 21 in the previous round.

Al Duhail kept their eight-point lead on top of the table after beating Al Khor 1-0. In the process, The Red Knights remained as the only unbeaten side in the 12-team competition with their 11th win that took their points tally to 34.

Moroccan striker Yousef El Arabi scored Al Duhail’s only goal to stay as the second-highest top-scorer with 15 goals, six less than Al Sadd’s Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah who netted a brace for Al Sadd and continued to top the scorers’ chart.

Qatar international Hassan Al Haydous scored the other goal for The Wolves, who have 26 points with two games in hand.

Meanwhile, Al Sailiya kept pace with Al Sadd as The Peregrines remained third in the standings with 25 points. Substitute Mohammed Mudather’s stunning header deep into second-half injury time sealed them the victory over Al Gharafa, with Meshaal Al Shammari being the other scorer.

It was Al Sailiya’s eighth victory. Vladimir Weiss found the goal for Al Gharafa who stayed sixth with 18 points.

Al Rayyan were drawn by 1-1 by Umm Salal, yet they stayed in the fourth place with 23 points.

Luca Borges equalised for Al Rayyan after Mahmoud Al Mawas had scored for Umm Salal, who remained seventh with 16 points.

Al Ahli’s (22 points) fifth position did not change as they got the better of Qatar SC 1-0, with Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong producing the winner.

Thus, the first seven positions remained unchanged. In fact, the only change in the league table was the swapping of ranks by Al Arabi and Al Shahania.

Al Arabi (15 points) slipped from eighth to ninth following their loss to Al Sadd. The Dream Team put up a much-improved show than they did against Al Sadd in the first leg of QNB Stars League, but could not just succeed.

Al Shahania, who beat Al Kharaitiyat 1-0, rose to the eighth place with 15 points on better goal difference than Al Arabi after they both were tied on points.

Qatar SC, Al Khor and Al Kharaitiyat stood as the 10th, 11th and 12-placed team with 11, eight and three points respectively.
