QSL side Al Rayyan registered a 2-1 win against AGL side Al Wahda to mark their return to the AFC Champions League in some style. The Lions opened the scoring through a header from Uruguayan defender Gonzalo Viera on the 13 minute mark.<br />

Al Wahda fought back and found an equalizer through Korean full-back Rim Chang-woo who bundled the ball into the back of the net from a corner, with ten minutes left to play in the first half.<br />

The reigning QSL champions rallied in the second half, and after some sustained pressure found a winner through midfielder Victor Caceres on the hour mark. A well placed free-kick from Rodrigo Tabata eventually found the head of the Paraguayan international who planted the ball past Wahda keeper Rashed Ali.<br />

The visitors pushed hard for an equalizer, but Al Rayyan defended well in the final fifteen minutes of the match and held on to secure all three points.<br />
