Plenty on the line in the first Clasico of the season

The QSL match of the week for round ten will see two giants of the Qatar game face up in the form of Al Rayyan and Al Sadd in the Qatar Clasico. The game will have added spice considering both sides are battling for the QSL falcon shield come the end of the season.

For Al Rayyan, they are heading into the Wednesday evening clash off the back of their first domestic defeat of the season, following a 3-2 defeat to Al Gharafa. Head coach Michael Laudrup will be eager to get back to winning ways, and inflict the first defeat to Al Sadd of the season in the process.

Sergio Garcia grabbed a brace in the defeat to Al Gharafa and Rayyan fans will be hoping that the Spanish attacker will be amongst the goals again in one of their biggest games of the season. After starting slowly in the league the veteran now has four goals this term and is looking lively on the right wing. Al Sadd has struggled in defense recently and Garcia will be looking to exploit this weakness during the Qatar Clasico.

As for Al Sadd they have yet to have tasted defeat this season, and prepared for the clasico with a narrow 1-0 win over Al Khor last time out. Captain Xavi stepped up for his side, slotting away the only goal of the tie five minutes into the second half.

Jesaldo Ferriera will be counting on the experience of Xavi to guide Al Sadd in this must win game. The midfielder isn’t of the big occasion having played in plenty of crunch games with his former club Barcelona. Xavi has scored four times in his last five QSL games and will hoping he can aid his side again especially when facing the most miserly defence in the league in the form of Al Rayyan.
