Al Khor coach Winfried Schafer spoke to the media ahead of their 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League Week 4 match against Al Rayyan.

“Our performances have been good during the first three rounds despite the lack of wins. I say to all fans of the club not to give up on the players. We have seen our team in previous matches that worked hard and fought on the field, but it was the small mistakes that cost us.

“We know that Al Rayyan have many international players, but our project is different to theirs. Ours is a young side with talented players. We do not fear Al Rayyan and are preparing strongly for this match. Step by step, we will do what is required and you will notice the team’s development in the upcoming matches.

“We need some experienced players to fill in the gaps and lead the team. New signings will change the team and we are working on that now. We need a striker so that there is a proper link between our defence and our attack. If you have a good attack, your defence will be good as well. Our German striker (Pierre-Michel) Lasogga is injured and maybe he needs five or six weeks for recovery,” said Schafer.

Al Khor player Ahmed Al Mohannadi said, “Our mistakes in previous matches cost us a lot and we need to minimize these mistakes in the upcoming matches starting with Al Rayyan.

“We could have beaten Umm Salal and to a lesser extent Al Wakrah too, but our lack of focus cost us those matches. The Al Rayyan game will be difficult as they have a strong team and players like James Rodriguez. But we will enter this match with a three-point target in mind.”
