Al Sadd retaining the prestigious league shield highlighted the 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League’s Week 19 action held on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 19th, 20th and 21st February, 2022. It was also The Wolves’ 16th Qatar league title overall, the most by any team.

RESULTS

Al Rayyan lost to Al Arabi      2-4

Umm Salal lost to Al Sailiya    0-1

Al Khor lost to Al Shamal       0-1

Al Wakrah bt Al Gharafa 3-2

Al Ahli lost to Al Sadd   2-8

Qatar SC lost to Al Duhail      0-5

All six matches ended in victories and Al Sadd recorded the biggest margin of victory when they beat Al Ahli 8-2. A total of 28 goals were scored.

Akram Afif, Hassan Al Haydous, Boualem Khoukhi, Santi Cazorla, Baghdad Bounedjah, Andre Ayew (double) and Yousef Abdulrazaq scored the goals for Al Sadd.

Abdulrasheed Umaru and Aldokali Alsayed scored for Al Ahli.

Going into the Al Ahli match, Al Sadd just needed to win any of their remaining five matches to take an unassailable points lead over nearest challengers Al Duhail to become the new champions, no matter Al Duhail’s results in their remaining matches.

The victory took Al Sadd to 52 points with an unbeaten record, while Al Ahli remained on 23 points. Moreover, Al Sadd have a match in hand (Qatar Clasico against Al Rayyan from Week 14).

As far as positions are concerned, Al Duhail are second with 42 points, Al Wakrah third with 34 points, Al Arabi fourth with 29 points, Al Gharafa fifth with 27 points, Umm Salal sixth with 25 points, Al Ahli seventh with 23 points, Qatar SC eighth with 22 points, Al Rayyan ninth with 18 points and one match in hand (against Al Sadd), Al Shamal 10th with 16 points, Al Khor 11th with 12 points and Al Sailiya 12th with 11 points.

Al Arabi scored a crucial 4-2 win over Al Rayyan that saw them get back into the top four.

Yousef Msakni (double), Aaron Boupendza and Aron Gunnarsson scored for Al Arabi.

Shojae Khalilzadeh and Naif Al Hadrami were Al Rayyan’s scorers.

Driss Fettouhi converted from the penalty spot for the all-important goal towards the close as Al Sailiya registered only their second victory following a series of dismal results.

The Peregrines have endured the most number of defeats (12) and are still facing the relegation threat, occupying the last position in the 12-team table for long.

Al Shamal got three valuable points when Matias Nani scored the all-important goal in their match against Al Khor.

Al Wakrah recorded a decisive 3-2 win over Al Gharafa.

Mohamed Benyettou and Jacinto Dala (double) scored for Al Wakrah, while Sofiane Hanni and Abdullah Ali Saei were Al Gharafa’s scorers.

Al Duhail left nothing to chance while registering a 5-0 win over Qatar SC. Michael Olunga and Almoez Ali (both double) and substitute Mubarak Shanan scored the goals.

The 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League’s Week 20 matches will be played on 24th and 25th February, 2022, with three matches on each day.
