Al Sadd emerged as winners of Qatar-UAE Super Cup’s Super Shield after a thrilling clash as Roberto Firmino struck in the dying seconds of stoppage time to beat Shabab Al Ahli 3-2 at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on Saturday.

The shield was presented to Al Sadd by His Excellency Mohammed Khalifa Al Suwaidi, CEO of Qatar-UAE Super Cup Organizing Committee, Mr. Jamal Al Marri, Vice-Chairman of UAE Pro League, His Excellency Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, Vice-President of Al Sadd, and Mr. Hassan Juma Al Mohannadi, a member of Executive Committee of Qatar Football Association.

Firmino scored a brace in the 55th and 90+6 minute, while Al Sadd livewire Akram Afif, who was at the forefront of the attacks, scored in the 74th minute.

For Shabab Al Ahli, Yuri Cesar (30th minute) and Mohammad Juma (78th minute) were on target.

The UAE side went up the lead with a powerful strike from Cesar after being set up by Federico Nicolas Cartabia just outside the striking square.

Al Sadd got the equaliser after the break when they were awarded a penalty as Afif was wrongly tackled by Mateus Henrique Silva inside the box. Firmino struck flawlessly from the spot.

Al Sadd went up 2-1 as Afif latched on to a long floater from Pedro Miguel to first intercept and then score from the five-yard line in front of the goal.

The joy for the hosts was, however, shortlived as Shabab Al Ahli drew level at 2-2, with Juma leaping high to head home.

In added time, there was frenetic action and in the end Mohamed Camara made a superb curling ground cross to Firmino, who made no mistake in scoring as Al Sadd players and fans leapt in delight.
