Al Rayyan defender David Garcia spoke to Qatar Stars League website ahead of the highly-anticipated Qatar Clasico against Al Sadd, a marquee clash between two sides with large fan bases. The 2026-2027 season Doha Bank Stars League Week 9 match between them will be played on Sunday at Al Sadd club’s Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.

How do you view the importance of upcoming Clasico especially given that both teams are level on points and locked in a fierce rivalry?

It’s a special match. The Qatar Clasico has even greater significance because it brings together two of the best teams, both currently tied on points. I believe it’ll be an exceptional and highly-entertaining match for the fans.

What makes this encounter different from previous Clasico matches and how do you assess both teams’ chances in the race for league title this season?

Clasico matches always have a unique character, but this one is particularly special because both teams are in good form. We intend to remain in the title race right until the end of season.

What’re Al Rayyan’s key strengths this season – the factors that’ve contributed to the positive results achieved so far?

Our greatest strength is our defensive solidity. We’ve conceded only three goals in the league so far. This is complemented by the significant attacking potential we possess, thanks to the quality of our players in the final third.

What’s your message to Al Rayyan fans ahead of Qatar Clasico and what can you promise them for this crucial encounter?

My message to our fans is to come to the stadium, support us and cheer us on. I assure them that we’ll do everything in our capacity to secure a win for them.

What’re your primary personal ambitions and goals with Al Rayyan this season, both in the league and other competitions?

My goals are very clear – to win the league title with Al Rayyan and claim the titles in all other competitions we’re competing, in this season.
