An extra time goal from Oumar Sekou saw Al Ahli edge Iran’s Foolad Mobarakeh Sepahan 1-0 at the Al Thumama Stadium on Wednesday to secure passage into the quarterfinals of AFC Champions League Two.

Al Ahli progressed into the last eight with a 3-2 aggregate following their dramatic 2-2 draw in the first-leg tie.

The second-leg clash was more composed with both sides being cautious, but Sekou seized the hosts’ big moment in the opening minute of extra time to strike the blow.

Sepahan’s Mohammad Daneshgar miscued a header while trying to clear the ball and Sekou, who was at hand, grabbed the chance to go on and score through the legs of an advancing goalkeeper Seyed Hosseini.

Earlier in the seventh minute, Sepahan thought they had taken the lead on aggregate, with a Kaveh Rezaei header finding the back of the net from a Mehdi Lamouchi cross. The VAR check, however, found Rezaei to be offside and the goal was ruled out.

Al Ahli will meet Jordan’s Al Hussein in the quarterfinals.
