El Jaish have been handed an injury blow ahead of their Qatar Cup final against Al Sadd, confirming that influential defender Lucas Mendes will miss the remainder of the season.
The Brazilian defender suffered a fractured cheek bone in his sides 3-2 victory over rivals Lekhwiya on Friday evening.

The news will be a major blow for Jaish coach Sabri Lamouchi, who considers Mendes his first choice at center back for the side. Lamouchi will now have to assess his squad in the coming days to decide on a replacement for Mendes ahead of the Saturday evening Qatar Cup final against Al Sadd.

The club also confirmed that the side will return to training on Monday evening as they ramp up their preparations for the Qatar Cup, El Jaish are the current Qatar Cup holders and will be looking to lift the trophy for the third time in their history.
