He gained recognition as one of the stars of the Qatar youth team during the 1981 World Cup in Australia and later became an ambassador for the Qatar 2022 World Cup bid.
In 1995, he obtained a coaching license and went on to train numerous sports clubs in Qatar. His coaching career took off with Al Ahli in 2009, where he successfully led the team to qualify from the Second Division League to the First Division League.
During the 2009-2010 season, he took on the role of coaching the Lekhwiya Al Duhail, and achieved the team's first-ever second division cup title, as well as leading them to qualify for the first division league for the first time in their history in the following season.
Abdullah Mubarak took over as the coach of Al Ahli on September 26, 2010, succeeding Serbian coach Ilija Petkovic. He successfully steered the team away from the threat of relegation.
Following his time with Al-Ahly, Abdullah Mubarak traveled to Europe for training experiences with Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Ajax Amsterdam, and Eindhoven.
In January 2013, he was appointed as the coach of Al Sailiya and remained with the team for 4 seasons before leaving in 2017 to join Qatar Club.
He guided them from the second division to the first division and in 2019, he helped them avoid relegation. In 2023, Abdullah Mubarak led Al Markhiya to promotion to the first division, and he achieved the same feat in 2024 with Al-Khor Club.
Abdullah Mubarak has accomplished numerous feats throughout his coaching tenure, securing the Best Coach Award in Qatar for the 2009-2010 and 2011-2012 seasons at the Qatar Federation’s annual Best Awards ceremony. Additionally, he was honored with the Olympic Committee Award for Best Coach in Qatar in 2008 and 2009.
