Comical own-goal gifts Al Khor all three pointsAl Khor 1-0 Mesaimeer
Al Khor eased their relegation fears with a 1-0 win over bottom side Mesaimeer.
Victory for the Knights sees them move on to 28 points – six clear of second-bottom Qatar Sports Club with three games to go.
For already-relegated Mesaimeer it was a 20th defeat of a miserable maiden season in the QSL. Rodion Gacanin’s men have taken just five points and scored only 14 goals this campaign.
The only goal of the game came in added time at the end of the first half at Al Khor Stadium. Mesaimeer failed to clear a long throw and the ball found its way to Madson at the back post. The Brazilian flicked the ball across the goal-line and it ended up in the back of the net after Abdulaziz Al Sherif somehow hooked an attempted clearance past Mohammed Ghanem.

It was a fitting winning goal for a match which was low on quality. Both sides struggled to create clear-cut chances, though Khor’s extra cutting edge meant they just about deserved the three points.
Considering their difficult run of fixtures in recent weeks, head coach Jean Fernandez will be pleased his players have done just enough to all-but confirm another season in the QSL.
Thunders grab vital point against Al Gharafa
Al Gharafa 1-1 Al Kharaitiyat
Al Kharaitiyat earned what could prove to be a vital point in their fight for survival after coming from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against Al Gharafa.
Yahia Kebe scored a 76th minute penalty for the Thunders to ensure a share of the spoils at Gharafa Stadium.
The result keeps Kharaitiyat a point ahead of Qatar Sports Club, who yesterday drew 1-1 with Al Sailiya and currently occupy the second relegation spot.
Gharafa took the lead on the stroke of half-time. Sudanese midfielder Thamer Jamal burst past two defenders and produced a strong left-footed finish which Kharaitiyat goalkeeper Ahmed Soufiane was helpless to prevent hitting the back of the net.
Pedro Caixinha’s men looked the better side in the second half but Kharaitiyat kept plugging away and were rewarded for their persistence when George Kwasi was adjudged to have brought down Kebe in the area. The Burkina Faso international dusted himself down to take the spot-kick and calmly planted the ball in the bottom corner past Abdulaziz Ali.

And just a few minutes later, Kharaitiyat had the ball in the net again but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Both teams pushed for a winner in the final throes of the game and it was Gharafa who went closest when Krisztian Nemeth blasted over in added time.
The point is a major boost for Kharaitiyat in their battle for survival. Gharafa, meanwhile, look certain to claim a mid-table finish after this result all-but extinguished their top four chances.
