Al Rayyan coach Leonardo Jardim spoke to the media ahead of their Qatar Cup 2024 final against Al Wakrah.

“I was hoping for an extra day’s rest between the semifinal and the final so that the players would have more time to recover, especially given the injuries of some players in the team and some recovering from muscle strain after the Al Gharafa match. But in the end, we must be at the peak of technical and physical readiness for the final.

“Al Wakrah may outperform us in terms of physical advantage, especially since in our last league match we played out our entire starting lineup and the same thing was repeated against Al Gharafa, while Al Wakrah rested their players in the last match in the league and the effect of that was clear on the team in the Qatar Cup semifinal. Al Wakrah have a very strong attack, so we must be careful and try to close out on the spaces they would seek.

“Sometimes mistakes happen for any player or goalkeeper, and this is normal, but the important thing is that everyone works and strives to achieve victories, and we, as a club and an organization, support Fahad Younis, the team’s goalkeeper, and all players, and we trust in their capabilities to achieve the ambitions of the club and its fans.

“We are trying to end the season with the best performance and results. We finished the league in second place but there are still two tournaments, the Qatar Cup and the Amir Cup, and the team will try to achieve the best and after that the season will be evaluated.

“We hope that our fans will fill up the stands at the stadium during the final and cheer the team to help them achieve victory and win the trophy.”

Al Rayyan player Roger Guedes said, “Al Rayyan are capable of winning the 2024 Qatar Cup. We could have won the league, but that is part of football and we are still trying to adapt to each other.

“Our relationship as players with each other in the team is very special and we are like one family, and we deserve to end the season with a championship win.

“The players always try to give their best and get the best results for the fans. We hope to beat them in the final and lift the 2024 Qatar Cup.”
