Al Ahli’s Congolese striker Alain Dioko has been presented today with the March Qatar Stars League player of the month award at the club’s training grounds.

The player of the month award recognizes an outstanding impact a player makes to his team. The recipient is chosen by the QSL’s Competition and Football Development department according to statistical benchmarks set out at the start of the season.

Dioko’s goals have been crucial in his sides rise up the QSL table this season, having bagged an impressive haul of 6 goals in 4 matches for the month of March.

The month started with an impressive brace against title chasing Al Sadd as Al Ahli drew 3-3 with the Wolves in week 20. Dioko was amongst the goals again in week 22 with a quick-fire hat trick in eleven minutes against Al Wakrah assuring all three points for The Brigadiers.

In round 23 Dioko was on the score sheet again, this time rescuing a point for his side against Umm Salal, with the vital equalizer coming in the second half.

March also saw Dioko break his own personal goal scoring goal-tally in the QSL of 22 goals. He is currently leading the race for the top scorer award with 24 goals in 23 games, which is set to be decided at the end of the season.

Statistics provided by Prozone- The QSL’s preferred statistical partner shows how Dioko’s lethal finishing has kept Al Ahli in the hunt for Qatar Cup qualification. In March the pacey striker has averaged 1.5 goals per game, along with 4.3 shots per match. Of these shots, Dioko has scored 35% of them, making him the most prolific marksman in the league.

Al Ahli’s counter attack play caters to the strengths of Dioko, his explosive pace coupled with shooting accuracy has helped his side remain unbeaten in March. On average he has racked up an impressive 320 meters per game at a sprinting speed.

It’s also important to note that all of Dioko’s goals came in the second half of games in March, either rescuing or securing points for his side.

After breaking his personal tally, Dioko will now be looking to score four goals in the final three rounds to break the QSL record of 27 goals in a season. A record currently held by Al Gharafa’s former Brazilian striker Clemerson.
