The Al Arabi-Al Rayyan matches in the last five years have witnessed plenty of of excitement. The derbies between these two giants in Qatar Stars League (QSL) have always stirred unprecedented interest from the fans of the two sides.
In 2010/2011 season, Al Arabi settled the first leg match in their favor with one goal scored by their former player Pescu in the 51st minute. Al Rayyan avenged their loss with a victory in the second leg match by four goals scored by Nemar, Tabata, Hamed Ismail and Jarallah Al Marri.
The 2011/2012 season witnessed the first tie in the first leg fixture:
a 1-1 draw with Pescu scoring for Al Arabi and Afonso for Al Rayyan, while Al Rayyan defeated Al Arabi in the second leg by three goals after strikes from Fabio Cesar, Youness Ali and Afonso Alves.
It was a goalless draw in the first leg of the 2012/2013 season but a
4-4 tie in the return clash was a game full of drama.
Ahmed Shahdad (own goal), Tabata, Jarallah Al Marri (two goals) scored for Al Rayyan while Al Arabi goals were scored by Wanderly, Khokhi Boualem (two goals) and Abdullah Al Arimi.
Al Arabi overwhelmed Al Rayyan in the first leg match of the 2013/2014 season with a one-goal win while the second leg game ended 1-1 after goals by by Yacobo for Al Rayyan and Nasser Nabil for Al Arabi.
The most disappointing sports season for Al Rayyan is 2013/2014 given the fact that the football team got relegated to the Qatargas League and consequently both sides didn’t meet in the 2014/2015 season.
In the on-going season, Al Rayyan crushed Al Arabi 5-2 after goals from Tabata (two goals), Mohamed Jumaa (two goals) and Sergio Garcia for Al Rayyan while Mesaab Mahmod and Paulinho scored for Al Arabi.
