Qatar SC defeated Al Wakrah 1-0 in Week 18 of the 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League at the Al Wakrah Stadium on Wednesday.

Bashar Resan (54th-min penalty) scored the winner for Qatar SC.

Qatar SC moved on to 22 points with their sixth victory from 17 games. They have a game in hand as their Week 13 match against reigning champions Al Sadd was postponed.

Al Wakrah remained on 31 points after their fifth defeat from 18 matches.

Al Wakrah dominated the goalless first half and created more chances.

Qatar SC too had their chances even though they played second fiddle to The Kings.

Al Wakrah’s Ahmed Fadhil’s half volley, following a corner kick in the 25th minute, was blocked by goalkeeper Motasem Majed.

Fadhil’s team-mate Mohamed Benyettou’s shot was parried by the Al Wakrah goalkeeper, while Boualem Mesmoudi’s header was too feeble to beat the goalkeeper in first-half injury time.

At the other end, Qatar SC’s Sebastian Soria shot straight to the goalkeeper, while defender Djamel Benlamri too headed straight to the goalkeeper.

Qatar SC turned the tables on their rivals in the second half and Al Wakrah were at the receiving end. They shot ahead through a penalty converted by Bashar and awarded after Al Wakrah’s Omid Ebrahimi fouled Soria with a leg-on-face challenge while both were chasing a high ball near the goal.

The Blue Wave had to play with 10 men after the red-card suspension of goalkeeper Saoud Al Khater in the 62nd minute for fouling Bashar way outside the box in an off-the-ball incident.

His replacement Mohammed Saeed effected a save soon after taking the field as he parried Qatar SC’s Yousef Ayman’s rising shot from close range.

Qatar SC were a transformed lot and they held on to their slender lead even as Al Wakrah made attempts at an equaliser.
