Umm Salal defeated Al Arabi 2-0 in Week 11 of the 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League at the Al Arabi Stadium on Thursday.

Abdulrahman Abkar and Ayman Hussein scored the goals in the 73rd and 90th minute respectively.

Umm Salal raised their points tally to 15 with their third victory, while Al Arabi remained on 20 points with their third loss.

Umm Salal thus extended their winning streak under coach Wesam Rizik to three matches in a row. The Orange Fortress had beaten Al Wakrah 4-1 in Week 9 and Al Duhail 2-1 in Week 10.

Play was mostly confined to the middle throughout the first half even as both sides sought a breakthrough.

Al Arabi appeared better in the beginning and had most of the ball. They got two chances towards the end of first half, in the 42nd and last minutes.

The second half was more lively, especially with Al Arabi pressing hard.

Umm Salal were forced to retreat and relied mainly on counter-attacks.

In the 66th minute, Al Arabi’s Aron Gunnarsson fired a missile shot that went wide of the post.

Umm Salal then launched a counter-attack that saw Isael Barbosa passing the ball from the right to Abdulrahman Abkar and the latter was bang on target.

Al Arabi tried hard to respond with a goal, but the Umm Salal defence stood firm.

However, it was Umm Salal who scored again at the fag end of the match through Ayman Hussein, who was assisted with a cross from the right by Ismail Ibrahim.
