Umm Salal players spoke to QSL Online on the Media Day. They exuded confidence and expressed hopes that the team would do better in the new QNB Stars League season.

The Orange Fortress players also spoke, among other topics, about their first two matches and reiterated their determination to do extremely well throughout the season.

We’ve high ambitions: Bilal Mohammed

“This season, I’ve a new team in Umm Salal. It’s a new experience. I hope it’ll be successful. The team has high ambitions and we’ll do everything possible to achieve them.

“All players are doing their best to support the team’s cause. Having finished in the fifth position last season, we’re eager to perform even better this time. We’ve strengthened the side with new players and they need time to adapt.”

I wish to help my team: Mohammed Kassola

“I wish to help my team by playing my role to perfection in all matches and tournaments. This is a new team for me and I’ll make every effort to make my mark here, having donned the colours of Al Sadd and Al Rayyan.

“We’ll try to win every game. The team’s morale was low after losing to Al Sailiya in the opener, but we’re motivated following the drawn game with Al Rayyan. All our players are doing their best.”

Our target is top-four finish: Dheyab Al Inabi

“This season, we’ve the ambition to finish in the top four. It’s easier said than done at the start of the season, but we’re geared up to fight it out all the way.

“We started off by losing three points, but drew strength from the draw against Al Rayyan, who are one of the title contenders. It’ll have a big impact on our next game against Al Ahli.”

I felt I could’ve made a big difference: Christian Osaguona

The going has been good for us. Our coaching staff had done a good job in the pre-season. Our camp went off well and we could prepare in the right manner.

“I couldn’t play the first two matches due to a hamstring injury. I’m feeling much better now and hope to be back soon. I’m not 100 per cent fit, but may be able to play in Week 3 of the QNB Stars League. I felt I could’ve made a big difference had I played.

We must put up our best in first phase: Yannick Sagbo

We’ve improved as a team. There’re still areas for improvement. We dropped points in the first two matches. We committed a mistake in the last minute against Al Sailiya and paid the price in the form of defeat.

“We did well against Al Rayyan and pulled off a draw. We must put up our best and collect maximum points in the first phase as the QNB Stars League’s second phase is going to be tougher.”
