QSL Cup Semifinal Report — Al Rayyan 2 Al Kharaitiyat 0
Al Rayyan beat Al Kharaitiyat 2-0 in Saturday’s second semifinal to reach the QSL Cup title clash. They will take on Al Gharafa, who beat Umm Salal 1-0 in the day’s other last-four clash that kicked off early, on Tuesday. The final will kick off at the Qatar SC Stadium at 19:00.
Sebastian Soria (16th) and Daniel Goumou (72nd) scored for Al Rayyan at the Al Shamal Stadium.
After a few attacks that did not entirely finish the way Al Rayyan wanted, Michael Laudrup’s boys opened the scoring through striker Soria, who easily deflected the ball into the net from close after Mohammed Juma Al Alawi, who raced all the way to the right flank, slipped in a near-perfect curling cross.
In the 32nd minute, Mohsine Moutaouali beat the Al Kharaitiyat backline close to their box and produced a powerful shot that beat goalkeeper Ahmed Sofiyan, but the ball sailed narrowly past the goalpost.
Six minutes into the second half, Moutaouali charged into the Al Kharaitiyat box, but his close-range shot hit the side netting, leaving Laudrup fuming on the missed opportunity.
Substitute Goumou doubled Al Rayyan’s lead with a tap from close following a goalmouth melee. The Al Kharaitiyat defence once again looked edgy as a quick-footed Goumou slipped the ball into the net off a cross from inside the box.
Ten minutes from close, Al Kharaitiyat’s Ali Abdalla produced a long-range drive, but his slow-paced shot was easily blocked by Al Rayyan goalkeeper Saoud Al Khater. Ali’s feeble drive summed up the lack of push from Al Kharaitiyat as Al Rayyan cruised home.
