QSL Cup Round 3 — Group B Match Reports


Three matches were played in Group B of the QSL Cup Round 3 on Tuesday.  Al Rayyan defeated Al Markhiya 5-2, Umm Salal overcame Al Sadd 2-1 and Al Ahli beat Al Arabi by a 3-2 margin.

Al Rayyan 5 Al Markhiya 2

Al Rayyan secured their third consecutive victory in the QSL Cup by overpowering Al Markhiya with a big victory at the Al Gharafa Stadium.

Moroccan star Abderrazaq Hamdallah scored in the 32nd, 39th and 93rd minutes after Baro Siddiqi had opened the scoring in the eighth. Rodrigo Tabata also contributed to the win by converting a penalty in the 80th.

Saleh Al Yazidi and Anas Mubarak scored for Al Markhiya in the 49th and 72nd minute respectively.

Al Markhiya did at one stage look like they were going to make a comeback  but, in the end, were unable to match the home side.

Al Rayyan now sit on top of the group on nine points, while Al Markhiya stay on four.


Umm Salal 2 Al Sadd 1

Umm Salal grabbed a valuable win in the final moments of the game to defeat Al Sadd at the Al Khor Stadium. 

After a goalless first half, Umm Salal resumed the proceedings aggressively and were instantly rewarded when Maher Youssef dispossessed a defender before beating the keeper.

Al Sadd’s young players grew in confidence and found an equaliser through Jassem Al Shammari, who succeeded in getting the better of Umm Salal defence. Maher denied Al Sadd any points late on when he scored his second in the 90th from inside the area.

Umm Salal now have five points and are placed second behind Al Rayyan, while Al Sadd sit bottom of the group without any point.

Al Arabi 2 Al Ahli 3

Al Ahli snatched their first win by prevailing over Al Arabi at the Al Wakrah Stadium. 

A dramatic evening saw a dominant Al Arabi rush to a 2-0 lead in the first half, thanks to goals from Ahmed Khalfan and Abdelrahman Mansour in the sixth and 36th minute respectively.

While searching for a third, it was Al Ahli who got the next goal in the 52nd via Khalil Sharif, who bagged another only moments later.

Al Ahli sealed a remarkable turnaround and full points when Colombian Christian Nazarit converted a penalty in the 87th after Al Arabi’s Saad Natiq was sent off.

Al Ahli took their points to four, while Al Arabi remain on two.
