QNB Stars League Week 5 – Qatar SC 2 Al Khor 1

Qatar SC put up a fantastic performance to secure their first victory of the season with a 2-1 defeat of Al Khor in Week 5 of the QNB Stars League at the Al Arabi Stadium on Saturday.

After Ahmed Hammoudan got on the scoresheet for Al Khor in the fifth minute, Qatar SC were helped by an own goal by Al Khor goalkeeper Rajab Hamza in the 10th minute. Ali Awad secured The Kings' victory by scoring in the 82nd minute.

Qatar SC and Al Khor have three and four points respectively.

The Knights were very quick out of the starting blocks and were able to make the pressure tell when they won an early corner. Hammoudan snuck in at the back post unmarked to launch a fabulous diving header into the roof of the net and open the scoring.

With Qatar SC in desperate search of points, their enthusiasm quickly paid off as they were back on level terms within five minutes, albeit in fortunate fashion.

Sardor Rashidov struck his shot from a tight angle which Rajab in goal was only able to parry but, in desperation to clear, Musab Abdulmajid hit the ball against his own keeper and it ricocheted into the goal.

Chances kept coming and Qatar SC were particularly unlucky when Adel, who excelled throughout, could not quite convert from close range as the ball evaded him from a cross, before he later saw a powerful header cannon off the bar.

Qatar SC finally got their just reward when Rashidov created space in the penalty area before laying the ball off to Ali Awad on the edge of the box and he curled his shot into the far corner with great precision.

They nearly extended their advantage immediately after the re-start, but Rajab was equal to a great drive from Rashidov. The home side held on for a marvellous victory even when Tiago Bezerra nearly scored with a late volley.
