QNB Stars League Week 3 — Umm Salal 4 Al Ahli 1

Umm Salal earned their first victory of the season in emphatic style as they romped home 4-1 against Al Ahli in Week 3 of the QNB Stars League at the Al Sadd Stadium on Friday.

The goals for Umm Salal came from Mahmoud Al Mawas (10th and 71st minutes), Mohammed Terazor (own goal, 54th minute) and Ismail Mahmoud in the 58th. Al Ahli’s reply arrived through Omid Amir in the 84th.

Both teams came with great expectations, but it was the potent attack of Umm Salal which made the difference in this fixture and they did not take long to open their account.

Mawas’ pass to Sagbo was returned as he cleverly fed the frontman with a reverse through ball that Mawas had no trouble in converting past the opposition goalkeeper.

While possession was even in the opening period, Al Ahli were unable to create enough chances to get back on level terms.

After the break, The Orange Fortress were straight back into action and quickly got a second of the night. Sagbo’s inch-perfect pass from the right was converted into his own net by Terazor, with Ismail looming.

Several minutes later came the goal of the night as Sagbo again put a great cross into the box which Ismail duly volleyed with textbook perfection.

Not to be outdone, Mawas got back onto the scoresheet as he chased down a through ball and beautifully chipped past the onrushing goalkeeper.

Al Ahli got a late consolation through a penalty as Adel Rhaili brought down Ali Ferydoon for which the defender received a second yellow card. Omid stepped up to score and add a more respectable tint to the scoreline.
