QNB Stars League Week 22 - Al Kharaitiyat 0 Al Wakrah 2

Al Wakrah defeated Al Kharaitiyat 2-0 in Week 22 (final round) of the 2020-21 season QNB Stars League at the Al Sadd Stadium on Saturday.

Abdulrahman Mohammed (14th minute) and Abdulghani Muneer (45+1) scored for Al Wakrah, who finished eighth with 26 points following their seventh victory.

Al Wakrah and Al Sailiya ended up with the same number of points, but the former were placed ahead on better goal difference (-10 as against Al Sailiya’s -14).

Al Kharaitiyat, who were directly relegated to the Second Division after Week 21 action despite defeating Al Arabi 2-1, stood on 12 points at the bottom of the table after suffering their 18th defeat.

Al Wakrah, with Mohamed Benyettou leading their charge, made more attacks from the start and they were rewarded with two goals for their efforts in the first half.

Abdulrahman Mohammed inflicted the first blow on Al Kharaitiyat when he scored with a rising shot from the left side of the box after darting into the area.

Just when the half was drawing to a close came the second goal as Abdulghani Muneer headed in Murad Naji’s measured cross from the right flank.

In between, Benyettou had his chip shot go wide of the target.

The closest when Al Kharaitiyat came to scoring was when they earned a free-kick, but Mohammed Osman’s effort was saved by Al Wakrah goalkeeper Saoud Al Khater.

Al Kharaitiyat brought in their spearhead Rachid Tiberkanine in the second half. The Moroccan did make some serious efforts, but could not be sucessful.

Mohammed Osman attempted a long-range shot around 70 minutes. However, that went way over the crossbar.

Al Wakrah’s substitute Omar Ali had his header parried over the bar by goalkeeper Shehab Ellethy in the 79th minute.

Al Wakrah generally adopted a cautious approach in the second half and they hung on for victory.
