QNB Stars League Week 2 — Al Sadd 10 Al Arabi 1
Hosts Al Sadd dominated Al Arabi en route to registering a whopping 10-1 victory in Week 2 of the QNB Stars League on Sunday.
Akram Afif (25th and 85th minutes) and Baghdad Bounedjah (43rd-min penalty, 47th, 50th, 62nd, 64th, 72nd and 89th) scored the goals for Al Sadd. The Wolves had opened the scoring through an own goal by Al Arabi defender Mustafa Abdi in the 11th minute.
Al Sadd clearly had an upper hand in the Qatar Derby played at the Al Sadd Stadium, where Bounedjah stood out with a magical seven-goal effort. He had recorded a hat-trick in their 6-0 win over Al Kharaitiyat in the first round to take his total tally to 10 goals.
Al Sadd started aggressively, but it was Al Arabi who created the first opportunities. After Al Sadd goalkeeper Meshaal Barshim blocked Diego Jardel’s shot in the 11th minute, Ahmed Ibrahim headed over the bar.
Al Sadd then went ahead when Abdi’s header off an Akram cross from the left went into the goal, with the former attempting to clear the ball before Bounedjah could latch on to it.
Akram found the mark off a corner by Xavi Hernandez following a faulty clearance by Ahmed Ibrahim.
Al Arabi reduced the margin as Abdi compensated for the lapse by heading in the ball that came off a free-kick by Ahmed Fathi.
Close to half-time, Bounedjah was brought down by Abdi and the resultant kick was converted from the penalty spot by the Algerian.
Bounedjah continued his fine run into the second half and scored twice more in five minutes’ time with headed goals. Hamed Ismail and Xavi gave the crosses in that order as Al Sadd cruised to a 5-1 lead.
Bounedjah then produced an unbelievable spell that saw him score three more goals to complete a double hat-trick. Akram did the spade work for the first two in similar fashion as the scoreline read 8-1.
It was not over yet as Akram as well as Bounedjah netted one more time to make it 10-1.
Al Sadd continued to top the QNB Stars League standings with six points, ahead of reigning champions Al Duhail on goal difference.
Al Arabi stayed on three points they collected from their win over Al Khor.
