QNB Stars League Week 16 Pre-Match Press Conference — Al Rayyan

Al Rayyan coach Michael Laudrup spoke to the media ahead of their QNB Stars League Week 16 match against Al Sadd.

“The players are excited about the Qatar Clasico. There can’t be a better motivation for them than the prospects of playing in this match. So far, we have 11 wins and we are still four points behind leaders Al Duhail.

“So it’s important to win and gain more and more points as we will be playing quite often now with the AFC Champions League coming up. We must stay focused. We are happy with our performance so far.

“Ahmed Yasser (who joined them from Spanish club Cultural Leonesa) is a strong addition to our side. I know his value and we will stand to benefit. The coming stage needs a large number of players. Even though he is nursing an injury, he is expected to recover soon and be ready for the games.

“Al Sadd have been showing a high level in their recent matches and this one will also be exciting in spite of the fact that we had won in the first phase.

“The idea of giving more chances to Under-23 players is good and there are many in that age category who deserve to play in games.

“Al Rayyan do not have players in the Qatar national team due to age factor. Our players like Ahmed Abdul Maqsoud and Mohammed Alaaeldin have the potential to make it to the squad,” said Laudrup.
