The QNB Stars League’s Week 14 action witnessed hot battles for supremacy. The competition in the top four intensified after the six matches that saw 19 goals being scored compared to 11 in the previous round.

The first six positions in the league standings remained unchanged.

Al Sadd reduced Al Duhail’s lead at the top of the table from five points to three after the former scored a convincing 8-1 win over Al Gharafa and the latter were locked in a 2-2 draw with Al Rayyan.

Nevertheless, Al Duhail remained as the only unbeaten team. They have 35 points and Al Sadd 32.

Strikers Baghdad Bounedjah and Akram Afif each contributed a hat-trick to Al Sadd’s big victory. Captain Hassan Al Haydous and substitute Hassan Ahmed too got into the scoring act for The Wolves.

Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi found Al Gharafa’s goal.

Moroccan striker Yousef El Arabi scored both goals for Al Duhail, while Brazilian forward Lucca Borges’ strike and an own goal by Al Duhail defender Mohammed Mousa helped the cause of The Lions, who moved to 24 points.

Qatar SC pulled off a coup when they downed third-placed and high-flying Al Sailiya 1-0, with Hussein Ali netting the winner.

However, Al Sailiya stayed third with 25 points and Qatar SC remained 10th on 14 points. It was The Kings’ fourth victory this season.

Thus, the gap between Al Sailiya and Al Rayyan was cut to just one point.

Al Ahli stayed on course to break into the top four as they held Umm Salal to a goalless draw. The Brigadiers have 23 points, while Umm Salal slipped from seventh to eighth spot with 17 points.

After a brief lull, Al Arabi tasted success by beating Al Kharaitiyat 2-1. Ahmed Ibrahim and Mohammed Salah El Neel found Al Arabi’s goals, while Valentin Lazar pulled one back for Al Kharaitiyat.

Al Arabi made a leap of two places, from ninth to seventh, with 18 points and Al Kharaitiyat remained as the rock-bottom side with three points.

Al Shahania slipped from eighth to ninth despite holding Al Khor to a 1-1 draw.

After Luciano Vazquez put Al Shahania ahead. Helal Mohammed helped Al Khor draw parity.

Al Shahania are on 16 points and Al Khor nine.
