El Jaish perseverance sinks Qatar Sports Club

El Jaish travelled across town to face a rejuvenated Kings side who under new head coach Radhi Shenaishil were starting to get their season back on track.

El Jaish maintained their position in third in the Qatar Stars League with a 2-1 win over Qatar Sports Club at the Suhaim bin Hamad stadium.

It was the third straight win for El Jaish and the new signings were finally starting to settle in.
The 25-year-old Korean striker Cho Young-Cheol put Qatar Sports Club up in the 19th minute with a stunning free-kick. Cho sent the ball dipping over Jaish’s three-man wall and past keeper Ahmed Abunora.

In a tame opening half, El Jaish captain Wissam Rizk wasted his team’s best chance in the 17th minute when he blasted a right foot effort wide of the target from 10 metres out.

The second-half had slightly more bite with the introduction of El Jaish’s Ghana-born Mohamed Muntari. The 20-year-old mid-fielder immediately had an impact. The rangy Muntari cancelled Cho’s goal with a superb header in the 58th minute and two minutes later scored his fourth goal of the season to give his team a 2-1 lead with an assist from Hasan Magid.

QSC striker Han Kook-young blew a great scoring chance in the 47th minute when his header sailed straight into the goalkeeper’s arms. The Korean really should have done better.

Then Hamdi Harbaoui had the chance to level the scores once more but he missed a penalty in the 76th minute.

Fifth place Qatar Sports Club will now take on Al Shamal whilst El Jaish will meet AL Khor on Wednesday the 22nd of October.
