Battle between last lines of defence
The high-voltage encounter between leaders Al Duhail and second-placed Al Sadd in Week 19 of the QNB Stars League will bring to the fore many sub-plots. One of them is the battle between Al Duhail’s first-choice goalkeeper Amine Lecomte and his Al Sadd counterpart Saad Al Dossari.
Goalkeepers, the last line of defence, play crucial roles and their performance impact the outcome of the game to a great extent.
Both Amine and Saad are tall and the good reach has been helping them perform their duties quite efficiently.
Saad, 28, and Amine, 27, have both represented Qatar. Saad is a one-club keeper, while Amine was with erstwhile Lekhwiya and was on loan at Al Khor in the first phase of this season’s QNB Stars League.
Saad is having an outstanding season as Al Sadd have conceded the least number of goals (17) among all 12 teams in the QNB Stars League so far this season. Al Duhail come next (20).
Amine can expect a tough time from the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Baghdad Bounedjah, Jugurtha Hamroun and Ali Asad.
And Saad will come under fire if the QNB Stars League’s top scorer Youssef El Arabi (22 goals), captain Youssef Msakni (19 goals) and Nam Tae-Hee (10 goals) have their way.
He will also have to face in-form players such as Karim Boudiaf, Ismail Mohammed and Almoez Ali.
The stage is set for Amine and Saad. It remains to be seen who will have the last laugh at the Al Duhail Stadium?
