Al Khor… Languishing at 11th place
Al Khor suffered many negative results in the 2018-19 season QNB Stars League in the form of defeats and drawn encounters.
They could win only two matches, while losing 10 and drawing three. Their goal difference is -16 (11 goals for and 27 against).
Al Khor are currently languishing at the 11th place with nine points after 15 rounds before the QNB Stars League was stopped. The tournament will resume after the Asian Cup in the UAE (5th January to 1st February).
Al Khor suffered despite the fact that the team management was keen to support the team, having finished eighth in the previous season. Tunisian coach Adel Sellimi was recruited, but the side lost the services of influential Brazilian midfielder Madson through an injury and he had to be replaced.
The club relied on the four new professional players — Wagner Ferreira, Diogo Farias, Rebin Solaka and Ahmed Yasin — to deliver the goods. Besides, Qatari players were also recruited.
However, Al Khor could not make a turnaround in their fortunes as the tournament progressed. They were at the receiving end and lost or drew some matches from winning positions. All that resulted in the replacement of Sellimi with the club’s Under-23 coach Omar Naji. Later on, Frenchman Bernard Casoni took over.
Their only victories were against Al Rayyan (1-0) in Week 8 and Al Kharaitiyat (5-1) in Week 9. They were on a hat-trick of wins, but faded out afterwards.
The long break in the QNB Stars League can help the team prepare well for the remainder of the season. The club management may be contemplating winter transfers to bolster the squad, so they can put up better performances in the remaining seven fixtures and thus move away from the danger zone.
