Al Kharaitiyat striker Rachid Tiberkanine in an Exclusive Interview with QSL Online

‘This season will be better for us than the previous one’

‘Defeat to Al Duhail was bitter and we’ve to forget that match’

‘We need time to keep producing positive results’

‘I’ve had good times with Al Kharaitiyat’

‘I don’t prefer to talk about my contract extension now’

Moroccan professional Rachid Tiberkanine is a key member of QNB Stars League side Al Kharaitiyat. He is justifying the faith shown in him by Tunisian coach Ahmed Al Ajlani ever since he joined The Thunders midway through last season.

In an exclusive interview with QSL Online, Rachid spoke about his game, the team’s mixed results in the league, big defeat to Al Duhail in Round 8, his goals for the season and the like.

“Our start to the season was unimpressive and we lost some points that we could’ve collected. We feel this season will be better for us than the previous one, but we need time to keep producing positive results. Some new players, like Josue Mohy, Mohammed Abdulrab (returned from erstwhile El Jaish) and Ali Hassan, as well as a few youngsters joined us this season. All are gelling well but, as I said, it takes time for everyone to fully settle into his stride,” said Rachid.

The striker, who has so far scored six goals in the QNB Stars League including the two against Al Duhail, said he did not wish to see his team lose points.

“As a player, I don’t like to see us lose many points. Also, we’re not able to maintain the momentum. After we beat Al Gharafa by a big margin in Round 5, we were held by Al Arabi and Al Markhiya.

“And now, I must admit that we crashed to Al Duhail. But we’re hopeful of reversing the trend and put up far better performances. I hope we get at least four points from the remaining three games in the first phase so that we can approach the second phase in a more confident manner.

“Individual performances alone won’t stand a team in good stead. We’re better than many clubs in terms of both performance and results. However, we must rectify our mistakes and work more on areas for improvement. We’re preparing seriously for our next match against Al Ahli.

“We aren’t at any point of time afraid of getting relegated from the top flight. Our aim is to garner as many points as possible and earn a creditable finish in the standings,” he said.

Rachid praised the role of coach Al Ajlani.

“He’s one of the best coaches and has a clear idea on how to develop the team and improve the players’ performances,” he said.

Rachid said he was happy with his performance so far with Al Kharaitiyat.

“I thank God for the good times I’ve had with Al Kharaitiyat. I’ll try to focus more and bring out my best in coming games to help my team. I believe in my potential.

“The atmosphere inside the club is wonderful. We’re like one family. The club management, headed by Sheikh Khalifa bin Thamer Al Thani, and the administrative and technical staff treat everyone equally and that motivates the players to give off their best,” the talented forward added.

He said at present he was not interested in discussing his contract, which ends at the end of this season. Rather, he would focus fully on their upcoming matches.

“The season is still long and I’m happy to be representing Al Kharaitiyat. I don’t prefer to talk about my contract extension now. I wish to see strong performances by our team. I’m confident we’ll achieve our goals and also a commendable finish in the tournament,” Rachid concluded.
