Al Duhail drawn into Group B
QNB Stars League champions Al Duhail were drawn into Group B of next year’s AFC Champions League at the draw ceremony held at the AFC Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Wednesday.
The UAE’s Al Wahda, Uzbekistan’s Lokomotiv and Iran’s Sepahan or India’s Iswal are the other teams in the group.
Emir’s Cup winners Al Sadd found themselves in Group C alongside Iran’s Persepolis, the UAE’s Al Wasl and Jordan’s Al Faisaly or Uzbekistan’s Nasaf.
Al Rayyan are in Group D along with Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal, Iran’s Esteghlal and the winner of Al Ain vs Bahrain’s Al Malkia.
Al Gharafa, meanwhile, go into a play-off with Uzbekistan’s Pakhtakor in Doha on January 30. If Al Gharafa win, they will be clubbed in Group A, which also comprises the UAE’s Al Jazira, Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli and Iran’s Tractorsasi.
West Asian clubs have been permitted to play their group matches on Monday and Tuesday, while East Asian teams’ fixtures will be on Tuesday and Wednesday.
