Al Ahli vs Al Gharafa — 31st August, 2018 @ 19:20, Khalifa International Stadium
The Al Ahli vs Al Gharafa clash attracts the most attention among all fixtures in Week 2 of the QNB Stars League. The kick-off is at 19:20 at the Khalifa International Stadium on Friday, 31st August.
Al Gharafa and Al Ahli are coming into the game in different moods. Al Gharafa are upbeat after they almost defeated high-flying Al Sadd before being held 1-1 through a last-gasp goal.
The Cheetahs are seventh with four points. Coached by Frenchman Christian Gourcuff, who replaced Turk Bulent Uygun at the start of this season, Al Gharafa had a disappointing start losing to Qatar SC 1-3, but recovered from it by beating Al Sailiya 2-1. And the draw with Al Sadd has boosted their players’ morale.
They have in their ranks Wesley Sneijder, Mehdi Taremi, Vladimir Weiss, Diego Amado, Othman Al Yahri and in-form goalkeeper Yusuf Hassan.
Al Ahli, on the other hand, are coming off a demoralising 1-4 defeat at the hands of Umm Salal. The Brigadiers stand 10th in the standings with three points they picked up from their 2-0 win over Qatar SC in Week 2.
Al Ahli, coached by Czech Milan Macala, will have the services of Khalil Sherif and Iranian defender Mohammad Reza against Al Gharafa.
Khalil had missed Al Ahli’s Week 3 match against Umm Salal, which they lost 1-4, due to suspension he received against Qatar SC.
Reza had been out of action ever since he got injured during their 0-2 loss to Al Rayyan in the opening week.
Al Ahli also have the likes of Meshaal Abdulla, Ali Faridoon, Moroccan midfielder Mohsine Moutaouly, Dutchman Nigel de Jong and Iranian Omid Ebrahimi.
