AFC Champions League — Al Wasl 1 Al Sadd 2
Algerian ace Baghdad Bounedjah contributed two goals after coming on as a substitute as Al Sadd fought back from a goal down to beat the UAE’s Al Wasl 2-1 in their first-round AFC Champions League Group C match in Dubai on Monday.
The hosts went ahead through Fabio de Lima in the 26th minute after he took advantage of a mistake by defender Abdelkarim Hassan, cut inside from the right and sent in a curling shot past goalkeeper Saad Al Dossari.
In the second half, Al Sadd’s Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira sent on Bounedjah to strengthen the attack and the move paid off.
After coming close with an overhead kick, he scored for Al Sadd in the 79th off a pass from Xavi Hernandez with a shot on the turn.
Bounedjah was at it again in the last minute off a cross by substitute Akram Afif when the Al Wasl defence failed for a second time.
