Qatar Sports Club (Qatar Club) was established in 1961. At the same time, Al-Orouba Club was established in 1959, but the two clubs were merged under the name of Al Esteqlal in 1971. The club was renamed again to Qatar Sports Club again in 1979. Since then the club has been a force within Qatari football and won a host of trophies down the years. During the 2015/2016 QSL season, Qatar were relegated for the first time in their history, but have now returned back to the QSL and will be looking to get back to winning ways.

Abdullah Mubarak is an experienced Qatari coach with a good track record with a number of clubs. He has also coached erstwhile Lekhwiya, Al Ahli and Al Sailiya. He took over the reins of Qatar SC from Argentinian Gabriel Calderon in November, 2017. He was instrumental in The Kings earning promotion to the QNB Stars League in the 2017-18 season. Abdullah played as a defender for Al Ahli for long.
