Al Sadd’s Meshaal Al Shammari in an Exclusive Interview with QSL Online

‘Our main objective is league title’

Al Sadd's Meshaal Al Shammari is one of the most promising players in the current season. The youngster is a star in the making. Despite the fact that he is not a regular starter in their league fixtures, he has a great role to play in Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira’s scheme of things.

Meshaal spoke to the QSL Online ahead of his team’s forthcoming match against Qatar SC in Round 4 of the QNB Stars League.

Firstly, how do you assess Al Sadd's start to the season?

We had a good start with three victories and nine points to our credit. We’re on top of the table on same number of points with Al Duhail and are second only on goal difference.

There were some remarks about the team’s performance and results in the league so far?

Indeed, our performance hasn’t reached the desired level. However, three victories have boosted our confidence.

Do you expect difficulties in the coming rounds?

Definitely… The league will be very tough throughout this season. We all saw how thrilling the first three rounds were. Therefore, we’ve to be cautious and work hard in order to reach our best level.

How do you evaluate your individual performance this season?

I’m always trying to do my best during training sessions in order to gain trust of the technical staff and also to get more playing time. Despite spending less time on the field, I’m ready to offer my best.

What’re your goals this season?

My target is to help my team achieve more victories as well as titles.

What’s your ambition with Al Sadd?

Of course, my ambition is to become one of the key players in the team and win some titles. We need to win the league title and put up a strong  performance in next year’s AFC Champions League.

Is the team capable of regaining the QNB Stars League shield?

Our main objective this season is the league title. The players are aware of it and are constantly working towards achieving that.

How do Al Sadd find the league competition?

All league matches are very tough and we’ve a big task ahead of us.

Which team do you fear playing against?

We aren’t afraid of any team, but competing against sides such as Al Duhail and Al Rayyan is particularly difficult.

What do you think of your forthcoming match versus Qatar SC?

It”s a very important match. Our opponents displayed good games in the previous rounds, so we’ve to take caution and play hard to win the points.

Which of the both sides has more possibility to win the match?

No predictions in football. Whoever works hard will earn the victory.

The encounters between both teams are always full of excitement…

The match will indeed be full of excitement and fought with fighting spirit. We should prepare well in order to give off our best.

Which Qatar SC player has grabbed your attention?

All their players are good. They play like a collective unit and that has to be respected. They don’t rely on a specific player. It won’t be an easy game.

Finally what would you like to say to Al Sadd fans?

The club’s fans are one of the main reasons behind our success last season and we’re expecting more support this time too as we pursue more titles.
